U.S. Green Building Council Awards Penn State Architecture Sustainable Housing Collaboration

The Penn State Department of Architecture and the State College Community Land Trust (SCCLT)'s GreenBuild project has been selected for a USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) Central PA Chapter Leadership award. The GreenBuild duplex, located at the intersection of University Drive and Royal Road in State College, is the first place winner for the "Innovative Project, Residential" award. Initially designed by students as a class project, the homes attempt to offer solutions and lead to the construction of affordable, energy-efficient homes in State College.

The project, began in 2014, came to its completion when homeowners moved into their new homes in July 2018. GreenBuild was made possible by the partnership between local stakeholders, the SCCLT, Envinity, Inc., Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, the Hamer Center for Community Design, the Energy Efficient Housing Research (EEHR) group, West Penn Power Sustainability Fund, Henry Architecture and Design, Paul Macht Architects, Weber Murphy Fox, Pennsylvania Housing Research Center (PHRC), the Borough of State College, and community members.

The team, including Penn State representatives, will attend the awards ceremony in Harrisburg on November 1, 2018.
