Stuckeman student named Western Reserve Herb Society Scholarship recipient

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Olivia Krum, an incoming fourth-year landscape architecture student in the College of Arts and Architecture’s Stuckeman School at Penn State, has been named the recipient of the 2022 Western Reserve Herb Society (WRHS) Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded for high scholastic achievements and “active participation in making this world a better place.” A Schreyer Scholar who is majoring in landscape architecture with a focus in recreation, parks and tourism management, Krum was awarded $14,000 by the WRHS for the upcoming academic year. "I am sincerely honored to be named the 2022 recipient of the Western Reserve Herb Society Scholarship,” she said. “The society's generosity and support has allowed me to continue my research efforts in national parks and be an active steward of these beautiful public spaces.” Krum is currently a research technician in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks where she is examining the issues surrounding visitor impacts on the wildlife and landscapes in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem. A native of Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, she also earned the national Udall Scholarship this year, which rewards students for leadership, public service and commitment to Native American issues or the environment. Founded in 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio, the WRHS is a unit of The Herb Society of America. Its purposes are to further the knowledge and use of herbs, to contribute the results of the experience and research of its members to the records of horticulture and science, and to disseminate this information through various channels. The Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture is the largest academic unit in the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State. It houses the departments of Architecture, Graphic Design and Landscape Architecture, as well as two research centers: the Hamer Center for Community Design and the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing.
