Japanese Architect Visits Stuckeman School

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Japanese architect, Keisuke Oka, will be conducting an art of concrete workshop at the Stuckeman Family Building on Saturday, October 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the main yard. There will be another pour session on the evening of October 8 at 6:30 p.m. He will also have an exhibition, scheduled at the end of November, at the Rouse Gallery in the Stuckeman Family Building. This workshop is sponsored partially by the Arts and Architecture faculty research grant. Best known for building edgy domiciles out of concrete, Keisuke Oka uses concrete with less water concentration to make his buildings more durable. He also uses locally sourced materials and imprints plants and other objects into his molds. A former dancer, he has applied the lessons he learned as a dancer to inform the spontaneity of his architecture.
