Four Penn Staters receive landscape architecture awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Four students from the Penn State Stuckeman School recently earned awards in three categories through the Pennsylvania-Delaware (PA-DEL) chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects’ Student (ASLA) Awards Program. PA-DEL ASLA Award categories include General Design, Residential Design, Analysis and Planning, Research, Communications, Student Collaboration and Student Community Service. There are three awards given in each category: Honor, Merit and Special Recognition. Jingyin Zhu earned the Merit Award in General Design for her piece titled “The Dancing Landscape - Martha Graham Memorial.” Two recent graduates of the Landscape Architecture program, Sadiqa Ansari and Tongtong Zhou, were recognized for their submissions in the Analysis and Planning Category. Ansari, who graduated with her M.L.A. in the spring, won the Honor Award for her work titled “A climate-responsive and adaptive design framework for habitat restoration and recreation for Rumney Marsh.” Tong, who earned her B.L.A. in May, earned the Merit Award for her piece titled “Newport on the Levee 2.0.” In the Communications category, Xiaoji Zhou became the second student in Distinguished Professor Ken Tamminga’s “Landscape Film Seminar” course to receive the Honor Award. Her film is titled “‘Memorial' A Place-Based Documentary of National September 11 Memorial and Irish Hunger Memorial.” The PA-DEL chapter is comprised of more than 581 members with 189 student members from four geographic regions: Eastern Pennsylvania, Central Pennsylvania, Western Pennsylvania and Delaware, and student members from six colleges.
