College of Arts and Architecture names student marshal for fall 2018 commencement

Landscape Architecture student Cristina Frass has been named the College of Arts and Architecture's fall 2018 student marshal.

While working towards a bachelor of landscape architecture degree with minors in sustainability leadership and Spanish, Frass received dean's list honors in each of her semesters at Penn State and was a strong presence in the Arts and Architecture community.

Frass has received multiple awards, including Department of Landscape Architecture Award of Excellence, American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Student Award, the ASLA Pennsylvania Delaware Chapter Merit Award and the La Unidad Latina Foundation Excellence Award. She was also the recipient of the Rettinger Scholarship in Arts and Architecture and the Gohn Scholarship in Arts and Architecture, and was a finalist for the Golumbic Scholarship Award.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Frass was a member of the Landscape Architecture Student Society, the Arts Ambassadors and the Nittany Greyhounds Club. She was also a Pennsylvania Power Dialogue Student panelist and presented a plan to Pennsylvania state officials in their efforts to comply with the Clean Power Plan through LEED certification requirements and a renewable energy transition.

Frass studied abroad in Mang'ula, Tanzania, and Bonn, Germany, and was a Kizuna Project Volunteer in Japan, where she taught English in elementary schools, cleaned polluted beaches and neighborhoods and helped with tsunami relief efforts.

Penn State's Fall 2018 commencement ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Bryce Jordan Center on Dec. 15, 2018 at 12:30 p.m.
